Prof. Dr. Ali Ghufron Mukti is one of Indonesia’s most respected figures in healthcare leadership and policy. Currently serving as the President Director of BPJS Kesehatan (Indonesia’s Social Security Administering Body for Health), he has been at the forefront of driving universal health coverage and strengthening national healthcare systems.

With a medical degree from Gadjah Mada University, a Master’s in Tropical Hygiene from Mahidol University, and a Ph.D. in Medicine from the University of Newcastle, Australia, Prof. Ghufron brings deep academic and policy expertise. He previously served as Indonesia’s Vice Minister of Health and held several strategic roles, including Acting Minister of Health, Director General of Resources for Science, Technology and Higher Education, and Acting Rector of Trisakti University.

A globally recognized health policy expert, Prof. Ghufron is the Chairman of the Technical Commission on Medical Care and Sickness Insurance at the International Social Security Association (ISSA), representing 160 member states. He is also on the Board of Directors at Results for Development (R4D) in Washington, D.C., and has contributed to panels at high-level forums including the WHO and the UN ECOSOC.

With over 40 scientific publications, global teaching contributions at institutions such as Oxford, Harvard, and UCLA, and numerous awards—including Best CEO (2021), Top Leader in Digital Implementation (2022), and Australian Alumni Award for Public Administration—Prof. Ghufron continues to be a powerful voice in shaping the future of public health and social protection in Indonesia and beyond.
