Mr. Gierlinger is Northwell Health’s SVP, Chief Experience Officer, New York’s largest health system and one of the largest integrated delivery networks in the country. He drives culture transformation across Northwell’s 28 hospitals and expansive ambulatory network while focusing creating an environment grounded in compassion, innovation and human-centered care.

As a previous hotel executive with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, Mr. Gierlinger brings a unique perspective to the patient experience dialogue. However, his medical journey and personal patient experience – having spent months in and out of hospitals and rehabilitation programs battling Guillain-Barré syndrome – motivates him to disrupt the status quo in healthcare. From embracing consumerism, to elevating hospital food to Michelin-star status to harnessing real-time feedback, Mr. Gierlinger drives patient experience excellence across Northwell’s continuum of care.

Mr. Gierlinger is a national thought leader within the patient and customer experience field. He speaks internationally, is published in peer-reviewed journals and has been awarded honors such as the inaugural Chief Experience Officer of the Year Award by Press Ganey, the Beryl Institute Wendy Leebov Championing Experience Award, and named by Becker’s as a Top 50 Chief Experience Officers to Know multiple years in a row. Mr. Gierlinger is an Executive Board member at The Beryl Institute and the Founding Council member of the Institute of Innovation.
